Introduced: 2010 (modern revival), originally launched in 1967
Purpose / Inspiration: The Yacht Club is IWC’s nautical take on the Portugieser—a dress chronograph with marine spirit and sport-ready specs. Originally a 1960s sport watch, the modern Yacht Club blends elegant lines with real-world toughness, adding rubber straps, higher water resistance, and sailing-oriented chronograph features. It’s the Portugieser you wear on the dock—or the deck.
Designer: Modern version developed by IWC to expand the Portugieser line into the sporty/luxury category, while honoring the original 1967 Yacht Club’s casual sophistication
Case size:
- Modern: 43.5mm
- Vintage: 36mm–38mm
Case options:

- Hour and minute totalizer in one subdial at 12

- Some editions use Caliber 82835 (auto with world time or tide indicators)
Bezel: Slim polished bezel, fixed—accentuates dial and gives a more refined appearance despite the sporty intent

- Applied numerals or markers
- Leaf-style hands, subdial at 6 for running seconds, chrono subdial at 12
- Red accents common on seconds or chrono hands for sailing flair

Why it matters: The Yacht Club brings active luxury to the Portugieser line. It keeps the elegant dial and in-house mechanics—but adds toughness and usability that makes it weekend-ready, not just suit-worthy.
Chronograph + Class: It’s not a diver, it’s not a dress watch—it’s a deck watch
Built for Boat Days: Rubber strap, flyback chrono, ready for splash
Portugieser at Play: Everything you love, minus the formality
A Modern IWC Hybrid: Looks sharp. Hits hard. Rides well.
