Introduced: 1979

Purpose / Inspiration:
The Polo was Piaget’s bold entry into the luxury sports‐watch arena. In the late 1970s, integrated-bracelet sports models were all the rage, but few married true watchmaking pedigree with full metal bracelets. Piaget set out to create a timepiece that felt as at home on a tennis court or yacht deck as it did at a black-tie gala—sporty yet supremely refined, with an unmistakable sculptural flair.

Designer:
Conceived in Piaget’s in-house Design Studio under Yves G. Piaget’s artistic direction, with Gérald Genta consulted on bracelet geometry. Their aim was to craft seamless lines from case to bracelet, creating a single flowing form that still read unmistakably “Piaget.”

Case size:

  • Classic: 38 mm (the archetypal Polo)

    • 42 mm (chronograph and GMT editions)
  • Thickness: ~8 mm on time-only; ~11 mm on complication variants
  • Distinctive cushion-shaped case with gently curved, integrated lugs

Bezel:

  • Fixed, polished ring seamlessly integrated into case top
  • Slightly raised chamfered edge—adds visual depth without breaking lines

Dial options:

  • “Clous de Paris” hobnail guilloché in silver or black
  • Sunburst blue, green, graphite gray on modern releases
  • Applied baton indices with luminous dots
  • Date window at 6 o’clock on date/GMT models
  • Chronograph subdials at 3-6-9 layout on chrono versions

Water resistance:

  • 100 m (suitable for swimming and light snorkeling)
  • Screw-down crown ensures solid sealing

Bracelet:

  • Fully integrated “H-link” metal bracelet—each link flowing into the next
  • Brushed faces, polished flanks
  • Hidden double-deployant clasp for a clean profile
  • One of the most comfortable metal bracelets in Piaget’s range

Production status:
Continuously in production, the Polo remains Piaget’s signature sports model. It’s regularly updated with new dial colors, complication variants (GMT, chronograph, skeleton), and occasional gem-set high-jewelry editions.

Why it matters:
The Polo bridged Piaget’s twin legacies of ultra-thin watchmaking and jewel-like finishing, proving that a sports watch could still be a sartorial statement. Its sculptural case and integrated bracelet set a template that many would follow, but few could match in refinement. Whether dressed up or down, the Polo wears like a luxury object—sporty soul, dress-watch elegance.
