Introduced: Ongoing — officially launched as a collection in 2004, but rooted in centuries of decorative craftsmanship dating back to Vacheron’s founding in 1755
Purpose / Inspiration:
The Métiers d’Art collection isn’t just about timekeeping—it’s about storytelling on a dial. Enamel, engraving, guilloché, gem-setting—each model is a wearable canvas for the best artisans in Switzerland. These aren’t mass-produced. They’re made slowly, by hand, often in single or double-digit runs. Every watch is a mechanical timepiece wrapped in a museum-grade micro-artwork. You don’t wear Métiers d’Art to track time. You wear it to celebrate it.
Designer:
Each Métiers d’Art watch is a collaboration between Vacheron’s master artisans, in-house movement engineers, and often external artists or historians—depending on the story being told
Case size:
- Varies widely — typically 40mm–42mm for modern models
- Round or cushion-shaped cases depending on the series
- Slim enough for elegance, large enough to showcase artistry
Case options:
- 18k white gold, pink gold, platinum
- Smooth polished cases with simple lugs—meant to frame, not distract from, the dial
- Sapphire crystal with AR coating
- Sapphire exhibition caseback to show hand-finished movements
Powered by:
- In-house mechanical calibers (manual or automatic)
- Movements often hidden behind decorated dials
- Caliber 2460 G4 (used in “no hands” Métiers d’Art models, displaying time through apertures)
- Geneva Seal certified — fully hand-finished
- Function varies by model: some simple time, others moonphase, day-date, or poetic complications
Bezel:
- Smooth, fixed, minimalist
- Rarely adorned—attention stays on the dial
Dial options:
- Champlevé, cloisonné, and grisaille enamel
- Hand engraving, gem-setting, miniature painting
- Guilloché executed on century-old rose engines
- Inspired by art, culture, mythology, architecture, maps, literature, astronomy—whatever story the piece tells
- Often no hands; time shown via rotating discs or jumping apertures
Water resistance:
- 30m — no water exposure intended
- These are works of art, not sports watches
Bracelet:
- Hand-stitched alligator leather with square scales
- Gold deployant clasp with Maltese cross logo
- Straps color-matched to dial tone and motif
Still in production, Métiers d’Art models are released in limited numbers, often as annual series, cultural tributes, or high-jewelry exclusives. Each one is a standalone collector’s piece.
Why it matters:
This isn’t watch collecting—it’s art collecting. The Métiers d’Art line is where Vacheron Constantin shows its soul. No brand blends fine art and haute horology with this level of execution. It’s not about utility. It’s not even about luxury. It’s about preserving endangered crafts, telling human stories, and putting hundreds of hours of handwork into 40mm of dial space. You don’t buy one of these on a whim. You buy it because it speaks to you.
Timekeeping as Storytelling. Watchmaking as Fine Art.
