L.U.C

Introduced: 1996

Purpose / Inspiration: The L.U.C line (named after Chopard founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard) was created to prove Chopard could do serious haute horlogerie in-house. This was the brand’s move beyond jewelry watches and quartz movements—into the realm of fine finishing, Geneva Seal certifications, chronometer precision, and complications. It’s the heartbeat of Chopard’s mechanical credibility.

Designer: Spearheaded by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, who established Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier to independently develop, finish, and assemble L.U.C movements

Case size: Typically 39mm–43mm depending on the model (XPS, Quattro, GMT, Perpetual, Tourbillon)

Case options: 18k rose, yellow, or white gold; platinum; Lucent steel in rare cases; ethical gold used in most modern production

Powered by:

  • Fully in-house L.U.C movements (manual and automatic)
  • Notable calibers include:
    • L.U.C 96.01-L – micro-rotor automatic with Geneva Seal
    • L.U.C 98.01-L – 4-barrel, 9-day power reserve (Quattro)
    • L.U.C 03.03-L – chronograph
    • L.U.C 02.15-L – tourbillon
    • All movements are COSC-certified and many feature Geneva Seal

Bezel: Polished or brushed, typically slim and refined—this is understated elegance, not flash

Dial options: Silvered, black, blue, sunburst, guilloché, enamel, or openworked; applied Roman numerals or baton indices; finishing is top-tier

Water resistance: 30m–100m depending on model

Bracelet: Alligator strap with deployant buckle; occasional metal bracelets on sportier editions

Still in production, considered Chopard’s flagship men’s mechanical line

Why it matters: L.U.C is where Chopard goes head-to-head with Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, and A. Lange & Söhne. With vertical integration, hand-finishing, and true innovation, L.U.C proved Chopard isn’t just a jeweler with watches—it’s a true watchmaker.

Chopard’s Haute Horlogerie Hero: L.U.C is where the brand flexes serious mechanical muscle

Micro-Rotor Magic: Thin, efficient, and Geneva Seal-finished

Four Barrels, Nine Days: The Quattro is a power reserve monster

COSC in Every Case: Accuracy isn’t optional—it’s built in

When You Know, You Know: Quiet luxury for collectors who care about what’s inside
