Hypnose

Introduced: 2016

Purpose / Inspiration: The Hypnose was Cartier’s tribute to feminine elegance through visual rhythm. Its layered oval case—with one oval nestled inside another—created a hypnotic effect meant to mimic the flow of time itself. Designed purely for women, it was part jewelry, part sculpture, and entirely Cartier.

Designer: Cartier’s haute joaillerie design team—introduced during the SIHH 2016 launch alongside the revitalized Panthère and Drive lines

Case size: Available in small (~30mm x 26mm) and large (~37mm x 33mm) ovals

Case options: 18k white or rose gold, with or without full pavé diamonds; some high jewelry versions featured black lacquer detailing

Powered by Cartier quartz movement (ETA-based)

Bezel: Double-layered oval bezel—often diamond-set, with contrasting textures or finishes for depth

Dial options: Silvered sunray or mother-of-pearl with elongated Roman numerals or minimalist baton markers; blued steel hands

Water resistance: 30m

Bracelet: Satin strap, leather, or gem-set gold bracelet depending on edition

Still in production in high jewelry and select boutique editions

Why it stood out: The Hypnose redefined Cartier’s oval—the case didn’t just frame time, it flowed with it. Feminine, dramatic, and unmistakably high design, it was jewelry that told time beautifully.

Oval Inside an Oval: A layered case that draws the eye like a ripple in still water

High Jewelry, High Drama: Even the quartz models looked couture

Time That Flows: The hypnotic name wasn’t marketing—it described the design

Cartier’s Quiet Power Play: Made for women who prefer luxury to whisper, not shout
