La Dona de Cartier

Introduced: 2006

Purpose / Inspiration: The La Doña de Cartier was inspired by Mexican film icon María Félix—glamorous, bold, and famously gifted a Cartier crocodile necklace in the 1970s. The watch echoed her spirit: a sharply tapered, asymmetrical case with a fierce attitude. It was unapologetically feminine—and designed to turn heads.

Designer: Cartier’s haute joaillerie team, launched as a tribute to María Félix’s legendary relationship with the Maison

Case size: ~27mm to 32mm; sharply trapezoidal shape, tapering toward the lugs

Case options: 18k yellow, white, or rose gold; diamond-set editions; rare high jewelry crocodile-themed variants

Powered by Cartier quartz movement (ETA-based), with some mechanical (manual wind) versions in higher-end models

Bezel: Broad and sculptural—polished or pavé diamond

Dial options: Silvered or satin-finish with Roman numerals and Cartier’s classic blued sword hands

Water resistance: 30m

Bracelet: Integrated gold link bracelet—bold, geometric, and unique to the La Doña design; also available on alligator strap

Discontinued in the early 2010s

No direct successor, but its energy can be seen in modern Cartier Libre and high jewelry pieces

Why it stood out: La Doña was a statement watch with movie-star lineage. Tapered. Geometric. Dramatic. It wasn’t for everyone—just for those who could carry it.

Born from a Legend: Inspired by María Félix, Cartier’s most glamorous client

Tapered to Perfection: A bold trapezoid that wore like fine jewelry

Not Just a Watch—An Attitude: La Doña didn’t whisper luxury, it owned it

Red Carpet-Ready: Gold, diamonds, and an unforgettable silhouette
