Introduced: 2016
Purpose / Inspiration: The Drive de Cartier was made for men who wanted a watch with presence—but not bulk. Inspired by vintage car lines, it introduced a cushion-shaped case that was bold, but curved to sit perfectly on the wrist. It was Cartier’s nod to the driver’s watch—but dressed in a tux.
Designer: In-house Cartier design team under the creative direction of Pierre Rainero; part of Cartier’s push to build a strong, masculine pillar alongside Santos and Calibre
Case size: 40mm wide, ~41mm lug-to-lug; wears slimmer due to the cushion shape
Case options: Stainless steel, rose gold, white gold, skeletonized editions, and haute horlogerie complications
Powered by Cartier’s in-house 1904-PS MC (time/date/small seconds), 1904-FU MC (dual time), and 9452 MC (flying tourbillon)
Bezel: Rounded cushion with polished or brushed finish depending on model
Dial options: Silvered, grey, black, and openworked; Roman numerals, guilloché texture, railroad minute track, blued sword hands
Water resistance: 30m
Bracelet: Alligator leather strap with deployant buckle—no bracelet versions offered
Still in production, though availability is limited and varies by market
Why it works: The Drive is Cartier’s answer to the everyday dress watch with attitude. Not too flashy, not too plain—just shaped right, powered well, and distinct from anything else on the market.
Cushion Done Right: A case that’s bold without being boxy
Driver’s Spirit, Dandy’s Style: Inspired by the dashboard, refined for dinner
In-House Where It Counts: 1904 MC movement brought real mechanical credibility
The Anti-Round Round Watch: If you know, you know—it’s not square, not round, just Drive
