Introduced: 1936 (Special Watch for Pilots), modern line relaunched in 1994
Purpose / Inspiration: The IWC Pilot’s Watch was born for function-first aviation use—made for cockpit legibility, shock resistance, and magnetic field protection. Its DNA goes back to IWC’s Type B-Uhr watches worn by Luftwaffe pilots in WWII. Over time, it became the foundation of IWC’s identity, evolving into a full family: Mark series, Chronograph, Top Gun, Spitfire, Le Petit Prince, and more.
Designer: Initially developed by IWC’s technical department to meet military spec; modern design direction revived under Günter Blümlein and IWC’s creative team in the 1990s
