Oposition

Introduced: Late 1990s to early 2000s

Purpose / Inspiration: The Oposition collection (yes, spelled with one “p”) was Longines’ foray into modern, minimalist, and design-forward territory—a deliberate contrast to its traditional lines like Flagship and Conquest. It targeted a younger, fashion-conscious crowd, offering slim quartz watches with sleek cases, integrated bracelets, and an architectural vibe. Think mid-century Bauhaus meets 2000s urban chic.

Designer: Developed by Longines’ contemporary design team as part of a shift toward more youthful, accessible luxury models during the Swatch Group’s design evolution phase

  • Men’s: 36mm – 39mm

  • Two-tone (steel + gold PVD)
  • Titanium (select references)
  • Flat sapphire crystal, recessed crown

Discontinued, not part of Longines’ current catalog—seen today as a design-era time capsule with appeal for collectors of minimalist 1990s/early-2000s Swiss watches

Why it matters: The Oposition isn’t about horological history—it’s about era-specific design. It’s sleek, modern, and reflective of a time when Longines explored how to stay relevant in a world moving fast toward fashion-meets-function luxury.
