Introduced: 2015
Purpose / Inspiration: A modern reissue inspired by a 1960s Breitling pilot’s watch, the Chronoliner was designed for long-haul aviators and world travelers. It combined chronograph functionality with a ceramic 24-hour rotating bezel for tracking multiple time zones—giving it the nickname “the Captain’s Watch.”
Designer: Developed under Breitling’s in-house vintage revival initiative just before the Georges Kern era, drawing from the brand’s archival aviation designs.
Materials & Features:
- 46mm stainless steel case with a scratch-resistant ceramic bezel (a first for Breitling at the time).
- Powered by the Breitling Caliber 24 (Valjoux 7754 base)—automatic chronograph with GMT/dual time function and COSC certification.
- Available in panda dial, reverse panda, navy, and limited edition blacked-out variants.
- Sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance, and available on mesh bracelet or leather strap.
Discontinuation Status: Discontinued circa 2020. Replaced functionally by watches like the Chronomat GMT and Navitimer World, though none retain its exact look or ceramic-bezel design.
Made to Cross Borders: GMT, chrono, ceramic—built for the international flight plan.
Retro with Modern Muscle: Vintage-inspired looks, but no vintage fragility.
Ceramic for the Skies: First Breitling to use a high-tech bezel—both stylish and functional.
Captain-Class Cool: A pilot’s watch for those flying the plane—not just the seat.
