Aquatimer

Introduced: 1967

Purpose / Inspiration: The Aquatimer was IWC’s first dedicated dive watch—built at a time when recreational diving was taking off. Instead of copying Rolex or Blancpain, IWC used an internal rotating bezel (protected under the crystal) for timing dives. It was tool-first, form-second—but over the years, it evolved into a professional-grade diver with bold design, serious water resistance, and IWC’s engineering muscle.

Designer: Originally designed in-house at IWC Schaffhausen as a response to growing demand for robust, legible underwater instruments
