Air Command

Introduced: Originally in 1957, but only in very limited prototypes—meant for the U.S. Air Force, which ultimately did not adopt it. That made the Air Command one of Blancpain’s rarest and most mythical watches.

Purpose / Inspiration: A military pilot’s chronograph, built for airborne precision. It featured a flyback function, tachymeter scale, and countdown bezel—designed for fast mission timing and navigation.

Designer: Created by Blancpain’s military department during the same era as the Fifty Fathoms—purpose-built for elite use. No individual designer credited.

Materials & Features: The 1957 original used a stainless steel case, bi-directional countdown bezel, and the Valjoux 222 flyback chronograph movement. In 2019 and again in 2021, Blancpain reissued the Air Command as a limited edition—modernized with Caliber F388B (high-beat flyback chronograph), ceramic bezel, and sapphire caseback.

Discontinuation Status:

  • Original 1957 model: Never serially produced. Ultra-rare (believed to be around a dozen pieces).
  • 2019 and 2021 limited editions: Sold out. No current ongoing production.

The Lost Pilot’s Watch: Built for war, forgotten by history, resurrected by collectors.

Flyback Flex: Not just a stopwatch—this is rapid-reset mission timing built for real aviators.

Holy Grail Status: With so few originals, even the reissues became instant trophies.

Silent Legacy: Unlike most military chronos, it came and went without fanfare—until now.
