Montbrillant

Introduced: 1996

Purpose / Inspiration: The Montbrillant was Breitling’s heritage tribute to its original factory on Rue Montbrillant in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where the brand operated from 1892 to 1979. The model honored classic Navitimer styling with a more vintage-inspired, dressier silhouette, aimed at aviation lovers who appreciated Breitling’s golden-era roots.

Designer: Launched during the Schneider family era, the Montbrillant was developed as a Navitimer alternative for collectors who wanted elegance without sacrificing technical function.

Materials & Features:

  • Typically 38–40mm cases, in steel, two-tone, and gold
  • Powered by Breitling Caliber 41/42 (Valjoux 7750 base), or in-house Caliber B01 in later limited versions
  • Features included:
▪️ Classic Navitimer slide rule bezel
    ▪️ Triple-register chronograph
▪️ Some editions included date or moonphase complications
  • Dials often featured vintage-style Arabic numerals, red accents, and “Montbrillant” script

Discontinuation Status: Discontinued mid-to-late 2010s. No direct replacement. A few limited edition B01-powered Montbrillant models were released before being quietly phased out. Now a collector favorite for its unique blend of heritage and complexity.

Navitimer’s Classier Cousin: Same brains, less cockpit—more cocktail.

Made Where Breitling Was Born: A tribute to place, history, and craft.

Vintage Without the Fuss: Modern movement, old-world flair.

A Watch With an Address: Rue Montbrillant wasn’t just a factory—it was the heart of a legacy.
